In Germany, the federal and state governments will almost certainly decide on further-reaching corona measures on Wednesday. In a state paper from Sunday, which is available to the Reuters news agency, there is talk of a further closure of restaurants and leisure facilities by December 20. If, however, the so-called seven-day incidence in a state falls below 35, the following measures are to be taken restaurants may also open again before.
Both Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had previously said that they expected the closure to be extended. Until the evening, however, it remained unclear which of the 16 state governments would support the latest proposals.
The paper also envisages further restrictions on contacts. For example, private meetings with friends, relatives and acquaintances are to be restricted to one’s own and one other household, “but in any case to a maximum of five people”. Children up to 14 years of age are excluded. A ban on the sale, purchase and lighting of fireworks on New Year’s Eve is planned. For schools, there will be a combination of stricter regulations with simultaneous regional differentiation. For example, in regions with an incidence of significantly more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, mouthguards will be made mandatory from grade 7 and vocational schools.
